Kuster slams Republican majority for making it easier for wealthy and well-connected to cheat on taxes
U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster
WASHINgtoN – U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted against a reckless proposal from Republican House leadership to make it easier for the wealthy and well-connected to cheat on their taxes at the expense of hardworking New Hampshire families. The bill would cost the American taxpayer $186 billion over the 2023-2032 period while cutting taxes for the rich and the top 1%.
“The American people were clear in the last election: they want their elected representatives to fight for hardworking families to lower costs and stand up to extremism,” said Kuster, Chair of the New Democrat Coalition. “Instead of doing that, the new Republican majority is choosing to make it easier for the wealthy and well-connected to cheat on their taxes at the expense of hardworking American families. I voted no on this backward piece of legislation and will continue standing up for families and small businesses in New Hampshire and across the country.”
This ill-conceived Republican bill rescinds $72 billion of the $80 billion appropriated to the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act, funding designed to crack down on tax evasion by the ultra-rich and corporations. Instead of using their first act as the majority party to address the issues that matter most to American families, Republican leadership is choosing to prioritize the wealthy and well-connected.
