Shaheen stands with rail workers, votes to advance agreement to avoid shutdown
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today voted in favor of legislation that would avert a national rail shutdown by adopting an agreement reached between railroad unions and operators. She also voted in favor of legislation that provides seven days of paid sick leave, which failed to pass the 60-vote threshold.
“While I’m relieved our nation avoided a rail shutdown that would deal a hard blow to our economy and upend the lives of those who rely on our railway system, the failure to extend paid sick leave for rail workers is profoundly disappointing. Working Americans deserve baseline benefits and protections, which should include adequate paid sick leave,” said Shaheen. “This legislation keeps trains moving and delivers overdue pay raises and health benefits to rail employees, but our efforts to provide the full scope of benefits that working Americans need and deserve are not over.”
