Kuster calls for roll back of federal gas tax

By Staff | Jun 23, 2022

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) is calling on Congressional leadership to suspend the federal gas tax to address the high prices consumers are paying for gasoline at the pump. Congresswoman Kuster has been a strong advocate for Granite State consumers to address rising prices of fuel and staples at the grocery store. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, she confronted Big Oil company executives on their business practices and the fossil fuel industry’s role in rising gas prices.

“The suspension of the Federal gas tax is an important step toward relieving the plain that Granite State families are feeling at the pump,” said Rep. Kuster. “I have been clear that President Biden and the Administration must act aggressively to bring down fuel costs which not only puts pressure on drivers but contributes to increased prices throughout the economy. I welcome President Biden’s call to suspend the gas tax and urge Congressional leadership to work quickly and pass legislation that will help lower costs for hard working families. More work remains, and I will continue pushing to hold oil executives accountable for price gouging and pursue policies that will promote American energy independence.”

Last week, Kuster voted for the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act, a comprehensive, bipartisan package of bills to lower prices for Granite Staters in the grocery store and at the gas pump.
