Kuster urges action to combat ransomware, protect American businesses during Energy & Commerce hearing

WASHINGTON — Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, participated in a Subcommittee hearing entitled, “Stopping Digital Thieves: The Growing Threat of Ransomware.” During the hearing, Rep. Kuster questioned cybersecurity experts about recent ransomware attacks targeting U.S. businesses and industries, and steps Congress can take to protect our economy and prevent future disruption.
“The recent rise in ransomware attacks targeting American companies presents a unique opportunity for this subcommittee to identify existing vulnerabilities, gather information on actions Congress can take to respond to emerging threats, and protect American industry,” said Rep. Kuster. “These attacks have far-reaching effects beyond the organizations being targeted, and I will continue working to ensure U.S. companies big and small have the tools they need to prioritize cybersecurity and protect themselves and customer data.”
Kuster is a strong voice in Congress for supporting American industry and combating threats against our country, our economy, or our democracy. Earlier this year, she voted in favor of the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act, legislation that would establish an independent commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection against the United States of America.
