Kuster highlights vaccine legislation during energy and commerce hearing
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), participated in a House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing entitled, “Booster Shot: Enhancing Public Health through Vaccine Legislation.” During the hearing, Kuster questioned public health experts about steps Congress can take to help bolster the nation’s vaccination efforts and prevent the spread of diseases, including two of Rep. Kuster’s bills, the Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act and the Protecting Seniors Through Immunization Act of 2021.
“As we continue working to end this pandemic, it’s critical that we not lose sight of the lessons we have learned,” said Rep. Kuster. “Our system for adult immunizations needs serious improvement. While COVID-19 vaccines are free of cost regardless of your insurance status, for other routinely recommended vaccines, Medicare beneficiaries may be required to pay out-of-pocket costs. That’s why I partnered with my colleague Rep. Bucshon to introduce the Protecting Seniors Through Immunization Act to provide Medicare beneficiaries with Part D coverage.”
“I would also like to take a moment and encourage all Americans to consult with their doctors and get vaccinated against COVID-19,” Rep. Kuster continued. “We have come too far in saving lives and reopening our economy to allow this virus to move us backward, and the vaccines continue to be some of our best tools to keep our communities safe. So, please roll up your sleeves and do your part to crush this virus.”
In Congress, Rep. Kuster is working to ensure public health officials have the support and resources they need to keep communities in New Hampshire and across the country safe. Earlier this year, she introduced the Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act to improve and expand information-sharing between state and federal governments, as well as public and private health care providers, to ensure vaccines are being administered effectively and efficiently across all states and territories. Also this year, Kuster reintroduced the Protecting Seniors Through Immunization Act of 2021 to eliminate out-of-pocket costs for vaccines covered under Medicare Part D and improve vaccine awareness and education for beneficiaries.
