Pappas applauds Biden’s American Jobs Plan

By Staff | Apr 1, 2021

MANCHESTER – U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01), who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement on President Joe Biden outlining his American Jobs Plan.

“I am encouraged President Biden proposed a bold and comprehensive infrastructure plan that will rebuild our nation, put millions of Americans back to work, and allow us to regain our competitive edge over China,” said Congressman Pappas. “Not only does this proposal make transformational investments to build more resilient roads, bridges, and waterways, but it will also help clean up our drinking water, increase America’s energy independence, and help close the digital divide. I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we can move this plan and our country forward.”

The President’s plan invests an additional $621 billion in transportation infrastructure and resilience. Specifically, it will:

Repair American roads and bridges with an increase of $115 billion to modernize the bridges, highways, roads, and main streets. Currently one in five miles, or 173,000 total miles, of our highways and major roads are in poor condition, as well as 45,000 bridges.

Modernize public transit through an $85 billion investment, which is double the current federal investment, to modernize existing transit and help agencies expand their systems to meet rider demand.

Invest in reliable passenger and freight rail service with $80 billion to address Amtrak’s repair backlog; modernize the high traffic Northeast Corridor; improve existing corridors and connect new city pairs.

Create good jobs electrifying vehicles by investing $174 billion in the market to ensure that we have the proper R&D, supply chain, and Americans workers trained to operate and maintain this infrastructure.

Improve ports, waterways, and airports. The president is requesting a $25 billion investment in our airports and an additional $17 billion in inland waterways, coastal ports, land ports of entry, and ferries, which are all essential to our nation’s freight.

Upgrade and modernize America’s drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems and tackle PFAS. The President’s plan would provide $10 billion in funding to monitor and remediate PFAS in drinking water.

Bring affordable, reliable, high-speed broadband to every American through a historic investment of $100 billion. That investment will build high-speed broadband infrastructure to reach 100 percent coverage.
