Hassan mourns the nearly 500,000 lives lost to COVID-19 ahead of national moment of silence

By Staff | Feb 23, 2021

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan released the following statement ahead of the national moment of silence this evening to mark the nearly 500,000 American lives lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

“This deadly virus has devastated families and communities across the country, and it is with a heavy heart that we join together as a country to mourn this grim milestone. Half a million deaths is almost too large a number to fully comprehend – eclipsing American deaths in World I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined. But behind this staggering statistic is each and every Granite Stater and American who we lost too soon and whose families carry their memories, and their own grief. During this moment of silence, we must acknowledge this overwhelming tragedy while also recommitting ourselves to slowing the spread of the COVID-19 virus and preventing further loss of life.”
