Bradley disappointed Fiscal Committee continues to reject education grant for children

By Staff | Sep 19, 2020

CONCORD – The Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee voted along party lines to keep a $46 million federal grant for public charter schools on the table. Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and advocates for the Northeast Woodland Chartered Public School in Conway requested the Fiscal Committee to accept these funds. Senator Jeb Bradley issued the following statement:

“For the fourth time, Democrats on the Fiscal Committee have denied educational opportunities for children in the North Country and across New Hampshire,” said Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro). “There are now 145 children at the Northeast Woodland Charter School who need these funds to ensure this school can function and provide the opportunity these students and their family deserve. My democratic colleagues claim to support education funding but when the state is offered a $46 million federal grant for charter schools, which are public schools, my colleagues continue to reject these funds and stifle the opportunity students and their families need. It is disappointing to say the least.”

“I want to thank Governor Sununu and Commissioner Edelblut for their continued leadership in advocating for accepting this grant. I hope Commissioner Edelblut will submit a new proposal at the next meeting of the Fiscal Committee so that the students and parents of Northeast Woodland have an opportunity to state their case for accepting these funds. The Fiscal Committee’s continued practice of blocking public testimony by those so adversely impacted lacks any sense of decency and decorum.”

“While I am disappointed in the lack of action by the Fiscal Committee on this item over the past 10 months, I will continue to work with Governor Sununu and Commissioner Edelblut to provide children across New Hampshire with the educational opportunities they deserve.”
