Chief: 2 injured by homemade fireworks in New Hampshire

By Staff | Jul 6, 2020

LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — Two men were injured when what appeared to be homemade fireworks detonated, officials said.

Both victims were taken to Lakes Region General Hospital with leg injuries after the explosion on the Friday night before the Fourth of July, said Laconia Fire Chief Kirk Beattie said. One of the victims had to be flown to another facility for further treatment.

The incident is being investigated by the Laconia police and fire departments, who are assisted by state police and the state fire marshal’s office, WMUR reports.

State Fire Marshal Paul Parisi said it is possible for people to face charges if they make their own device.

“It’s really important to buy fireworks from a reputable, licensed dealer here in the state of New Hampshire,” he said.
