House session set for June 30

By Staff | Jun 27, 2020

The House will be in session at the Whittemore Center in Durham on Tuesday, June 30 to concur or nonconcur on 26 (to date) bills passed by the Senate. Most of the bills on the calendar are House Bills that have been amended to include language from other House and Senate legislation. Due to House Republican obstruction, concurrence with Senate changes is the only way that legislation can be passed this year. House Majority Leader Doug Ley (D-Jaffrey) released the following statement:

“At our last session on June 11, House Republicans voted against common sense deadline extensions that would have allowed us to more thoroughly legislate during this pandemic. While this obstruction effectively cut the House out of a lot of the legislative process, I am still looking forward to a productive day on Tuesday.

A vast majority of the bills included in the omnibus packages coming to the House floor next week are bipartisan. Minority Leader Hinch and members of his leadership team are sponsors on several of the included bills. In fact, the House has already taken strong, bipartisan votes on 97% of the House Bills included in the omnibus packages and Senate Republicans joined their colleagues for strong bipartisan votes on 17 of the 26 pieces of legislation the House will take up next week.

Since the Senate passed these omnibus bills on June 16th, House Committees have been hard at work vetting them, continuing to reach out to the ranking Republican to solicit input and feedback about how to proceed.

While this is not the situation any of us wanted to be in, the reality is that we’re in the middle of a pandemic and our constituents elected us to solve problems and work to make their lives better.

I hope House Republicans appreciate the work that Senate Democrats and Republicans did with these bills and will show up on Tuesday ready to work for the people of New Hampshire.”
