ASD donates 100 personal toiletry bags to Nashua Soup Kitchen
NASHUA – The Academy for Science and Design donated 100 personal toiletry bags to the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter recently.
Part of the mission of ASD is to create responsible global citizens, and as such, ASD periodically organizes service projects that support the school’s humanitarian efforts.
For this service project, ASD partnered with the Nashua Soup Kitchen. Each grade was assigned items to donate in order to put at least 100 personal care packages together for homeless and disadvantaged people in the Nashua area. The items included shampoo, combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, tube socks, soap, winter gloves and more.
“Let me share with you what we will be able to do with these: We can make sure everyone in our shelter gets a toiletry bag on Christmas morning,” said Carol Weeks, the Nashua Soup Kitchen’s community outreach manager.
“We see many homeless at breakfast, and it will be so nice for them to get something and know someone has been thinking of them.”
New Hampshire faces a critical shortage of students who develop and sustain their interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields from elementary school through college. The Academy for Science and Design, the state’s largest STEM-specialty school, is aimed at expanding students’ interest and ability in STEM locally and statewide.
The academy is seeking to partner with local companies and businesses for student-centered activities such as internships in STEM fields for our students, contributions of funding or resources, and/or presenters for our SPARK Conferences. Financial donations can be in the amount of your choice or can consist of underwriting costs for installing a specific facility, technology or program.
