Nashua dentist helps create chemistry lab at Academy for Science and Design
NASHUA – Scott F. Bobbitt marked the celebration of his 25 years as a family dentist by establishing a community partnership with the Academy for Science and Design charter school.
Last year, ASD reached out for community partners to support its science, technology, engineering and mathematics education mission, stating its need for a full and properly fitted chemistry lab for its students. The call was answered by Bobbitt, DMD, MAGD, DICOI, of Nashua, who made a $30,000 donation.
New Hampshire faces a critical shortage of students who develop and sustain their interest in STEM fields from elementary school through college. The academy is aimed at expanding students’ interest and ability in STEM locally and statewide.
Bobbitt, an honors scholar graduate with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Connecticut, stays current with the dynamic changes in science, technology dental engineering and math with hundreds of hours of continuing education.
“It would be impossible to deliver the kind of dentistry I do without a strong STEM background,” Bobbitt said. “I would have thrived in a school like this were it available when I was a student.
“My general dental practice incorporates and integrates chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and medicine every day. The practice that I have today was the stuff of science fiction when I graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine 25 years ago.”
Bobbitt holds mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, is a fellow and diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and is a past president of the New England Master Track Program and the Greater Nashua Dental Society. He is an adult leader for Boy Scout Troop 773 and on the supervisory board of Bellwether Community Credit Union. He has lectured regionally and nationally on dental topics.
