Nashua students excel in national math competitions

By Staff | Aug 28, 2014

NASHUA – Three Nashua students who attend the Russian School of Mathematics for after-school math enrichment posted top scores in national math competitions.

The Nashua students were among hundreds of RSM students from New England recognized for outstanding achievement in mathematics.

The American Mathematics Contest 8 is the most rigorous nationwide mathematics competition at the middle school level.

The AMC 10 is arguably the most difficult math competition in the U.S. The test is geared to the most gifted high school math students. The highest-scoring AMC 10 and 12 participants are invited to take the American Invitational Mathematics Exam.

The RSM Olympiad is a 75-minute individual competition open to any student in grades 2-9, and features fun and challenging problems for novices and veteran test takers. Nearly 2,000 participated in RSM’s first Olympiad in 2014.

Top-scoring Nashua residents were:

Anmol Goraya, grade 8, AMC 8, honor roll.

Aditya Gandhi, grade 8, AMC 10A, achievement roll.

Ayush Chakraborty, grade 2, RSM Olympiad, honorable mention.

The Russian School of Mathematics will open a Nashua location at 84 Lake St. in September. RSM-Nashua will host a grand opening celebration from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

The event is free and open to the public. Families are invited to meet RSM faculty, enjoy math games and schedule free math evaluations for their children.

The school is enrolling students for its full academic-year program, which will begin Thursday, Sept. 4.
