Nashua student third in Mass. Stock Market Game
TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. – Alexandra Bazanni, of Nashua, and her Academy of Notre Dame teammates took home third place in the yearlong, statewide Stock Market Game for middle and high school students.
Also on the team were Grace Manley, of Pepperell, and Ethan Ekberg, of Westford.
The game, sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation, is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students in economics, investing and personal finance, and prepares them for financially independent futures.
Students are given a hypothetical $100,000 to invest over the course of the academic year. In Massachusetts, there were 374 teams in the competition.
Bazanni’s team had a 12.67 percent return on investment.
The winning team, also from the Notre Dame, earned a 26.12 percent return on investment. Team members were Helene Yadgood, of North Andover, and Lizzie Hall, of Billerica.
“The Stock Market Game integrates math, teamwork and other skills that really engage students in the learning process,” Principal Robert Murphy said. “It is just outstanding that out of the top 10 teams in the state, five were from the academy.”
