Talent show at Hollis school raises more than $4,000 for 2020 Vision Quest

By Staff | May 11, 2014

HOLLIS – The audience was treated to a wide variety of performances – from singing and dancing to karate, dog tricks and magic – at the Hollis Upper Elementary School spring talent show April 15.

Proceeds from the show, including ticket sales, refreshments, crafts and DVDs of the performance, topped $4,000 and were donated to 2020 Vision Quest. Then nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing support services to individuals dealing with vision loss and helps finance Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which trains service dogs.

Vision Quest was founded by Randy Pierce, the blind hiker who scaled the 48 4,000-foot peaks in New Hampshire, in summer and in winter, with his guide dog Quinn. He travels around New England giving motivational speeches, including appearances at the Beaver Brook Association and the school.

Quinn died in February, and Pierce was paired with his new service dog Autumn in March. They were on hand, along with Pierce’s wife, Tracy, to thank the crowd for its support.

“I have spoken to more than 30,000 students,” Pierce said, “and you are the first to say, ‘We support you for raising money for 2020 Vision Quest.’?”

Pierce encouraged the students to focus not on limitations, but on what they could achieve if they set goals and work hard.
