Destination Imagination team at Sunset Heights Elementary in Nashua collects food for Salvation Army

By Staff | Mar 27, 2014

NASHUA – Sunset Heights Elementary School students who participate in the Destination Imagination program delivered 624 canned items to the food pantry at the Salvation Army in Nashua on Thursday, March 6.

“We are so impressed by the efforts of these students,” said Jennifer Horn, Salvation Army director of development and community affairs. “The Destination Imagination program is a wonderful opportunity for young people to engage in community projects while learning and engaging in new areas of interest.

“It is heartwarming to know that when given the chance to choose any project they wanted, these students thought of the families that come to the Salvation Army for assistance. We are very grateful.”

The Sunset Heights Destination Imagination team Shooting Stars made the Salvation Army Food Pantry the focus of its project. The students held a monthlong food drive at the school, including posters and student announcements.

When the team members delivered the canned goods to the food pantry, they took a tour of the facility, hosted by Maj. David Moore. The students learned more about the history of the Salvation Army and the services provided to families in Greater Nashua.

The Shooting Stars team is made up of third-graders Adeline McGraw and Nora Schoch-Hyde; fourth-graders Abigail Finchum, Meghan Conway, Jaegen Young and Hayden Brand; and fifth-grader Jarrod Martin.
