Amherst student nominated for Emmy
Kristin Leffler, of Amherst, a 2010 Souhegan High School graduate who is a senior at Ithaca College, was nominated for a 2014 College Television Award Emmy for her documentary film “Following Flame.”
The College Television Awards is a program of the Academy of Arts and Sciences Foundation in Los Angeles. The national competition recognizing excellence in college-student-produced video, digital and film work (emmysfoundation.org).
Each year, the academy receives entries from hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide. Winners are honored with a personalized trophy at a gala in Los Angeles, and receive cash awards, industry recognition and the opportunity to network with top television executives.
Entries are judged online by members of the Television Academy who are professionals working in each respective discipline. As with the Primetime Emmy Awards, entries are awarded based on excellence in overall production.
“Following Flame” is about the rock band Flame, which is based in upstate New York and is made up of adults with disabilities. The moving piece highlights their abilities, struggles, talent and passion.
The awards gala will take place at the end of April in Los Angeles.
Leffler is scheduled to graduate in May. She is the daughter of Maryann Cocca-Leffler and Eric Leffler, of Amherst.
