MONT VERNON – Seven students participated in the Mont Vernon Village School Geography Bee on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

After several rounds of questions, the finalists were evident. The winner was Emma Parrott, a fifth-grade student. Fifth-grader Taryn Quinlan was runner-up and fifth-grader Georgia Craven was the third-place winner.

Emma has completed the qualifying test and is waiting to hear whether not she will compete at the state level, which is set to take place Friday, April 4, at Keene State College.

The school spelling bee was held Wednesday, Jan. 22. Thirteen students representing grades 3-6 participated.

The winner, Riley Mularien, and the runner-up, Lily Hipp, are both sixth-grade students. Riley will head to the state spelling bee at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord on Saturday, March 1.

The champions of both state bees will go to Washington, D.C., in the spring to compete in the national spelling and geography bees.
