NHPTV holding ‘I Have a Dream’ Video Contest for NH students

By Staff | Jan 16, 2014

DURHAM – What – and who – inspires and motivates youths? For many people, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 provided the inspiration to consider wide possibilities and to dream of a better world.

In honor of King’s legacy, New Hampshire Public Television is sponsoring the “I Have a Dream” Video Contest. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to create a 30- to 60-second video that describes what King’s dream, life, work or words means to them.

The video is an informal presentation featuring the student or a video presentation of someone the student finds inspirational. Winning entries will be posted online and may be aired on NHPTV.

Videos can be created with a mobile phone, tablet, flip camera or video camera. This is a great project for families and social studies classrooms.

The contest, which is underwritten by the Citizens Bank Foundation, will end Thursday, March 20. Details and entry forms are available at nhptv.org/dream.

“This video contest is a creative way to engage young people in celebrating Dr. King’s incredible legacy,” said Joe Carelli, president of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, New Hampshire and Vermont. “His strong moral character and dedication to bring freedom and equality for all continues to inspire each generation who hears his message.

“We are proud to work with New Hampshire Public Television on this initiative, and look forward to seeing the entries.”
