By Staff | Nov 28, 2013

NASHUA – Bishop Guertin High School senior Nicole Parent, of Windham, and junior Katie Brink, of Nashua will perform with the Great American Marching Band in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Selection requires submitting an audition recording that showcases the musician’s technical skills and musicianship.

The opportunity is open to students from more than 14,000 high schools across the United States. The band is composed of 267 students representing every state.

Parent is a drum major for the BG marching band, and plays the flute and tenor saxophone. Brink plays the trumpet and is her section’s student leader for BG. Both perform in BG’s concert band, jazz ensemble, pep band and various chamber ensembles.

Students arrived in New York on Saturday, Nov. 23, and spent four days rehearsing together, as well as touring the city. Musicians can also participate in a student leadership seminar.

The musicians are under the direction of Dr. Richard Good, of Auburn University, assisted by Barry Houser, of the University of Illinois.
