CONCORD — The ongoing investigation into sexual assault allegations involving counselors at the Youth Development Center has yielded an additional suspect, Attorney General John Formella said Wednesday.

Victor Malavet, 59, of Gilford, was indicted this week on seven counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, which accuse him of assaulting a former resident of the YDC’s Youth Detention Services Unit in 2001.

The YDC, since renamed the Sununu Youth Services Center, has been the target of a lengthy investigation into child abuse allegations going back decades.

“The Attorney General’s Task Force will continue its mission to investigate child abuse allegations occurring at the YDC and SYSC,” Formella said in a statement.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing.” He urged anyone with any information regarding criminal conduct at the YDC to contact the task force hotline at 271-4000.

Also, anyone who was physically or sexually assaulted or abused at the YDC is encouraged to contact their local crisis center, Formella said.
