The most traveled road in Hampton, Ocean Boulevard, will be closed to vehicle traffic and rerouted to Ashworth Avenue, which has been changed to two-way travel, reducing the road to one lane in each direction.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has changed the prevailing northbound Route 1A traffic patterns in Hampton beginning immediately and in effect at least until Labor Day.

The new configuration will result in northbound Route 1A (Ocean Boulevard) traffic being detoured to Ashworth Avenue using O Street and then returned to Ocean Boulevard near Nudd Avenue.

These changes are being implemented in accordance with Gov. Chris Sununu’s Stay-at-Home 2.0 Emergency Order and the Seacoast Beach reopening on June 1. As such, this is a collaborative effort between the town of Hampton, the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of State Parks and New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The closure of Ocean Boulevard to vehicles will provide for a wider walking mall to allow individuals to proper socially distance.
