Conservation Commission giveaway event on tap
Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Merrimack Conservation Commission is preparing for the Commission’s 21st annual Seedling Giveaway, scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Currier Orchards, 9 Peaslee Road, Merrimack. Seedlings will be dispensed to Merrimack residents on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This year’s selection of seedlings consists of different varieties of native hardwoods, dogwoods and other native plantings. These non-invasive plants, in their mature state, support a wide variety of wildlife and songbirds throughout the year.
The reason for the free annual giveaway program is to encourage residents to maintain green space in our town while providing food for wildlife. Parking is available at the orchard.
All seedlings are grown at the New Hampshire State Nursery in Boscawen. Visit www.nhnursery.com for the comprehensive list of available seedlings and suggested planting instructions.
