Scouts gather for derby

By Staff | Apr 17, 2021

March 19 was race day for Cub Scouts in Pack 425. Each Scout built a pinewood derby car out of a kit. This involves cutting the car out of a block of wood, sanding it smooth, painting it, installing the axles and fine-tuning it with just the right amount of weight to make it go fast.

Every Scout in the Pack was present to display and race their car, and lots of awards were given for the most fancy cars. As for the race: third place, Joey B.; second place, Leo H.; and first place, Charlie T.

A big thanks to Troop 424 for helping out on race day, and also for providing some really great skits for entertainment.

For the last 10 years, Kathy Crosby has been around to help guide the Pack into success, but she has announced her retirement. Crosby always was around to help make many decisions, some difficult, but needed to keep the Scouts active and safe. Happy retirement Kathy Crosby, you will be missed.

Three scouts were presented with the “Arrow of Light” award, the highest honor a Cub Scout can earn. In order to earn the award, a Scout must earn four required adventures that are designed to build character, citizenship, fitness and to learn about their future opportunities in Scouting. On top of this, they are required to earn an elective adventure, take courses on personal safety, be active in their den for at least six months and do all of this while there were major safety restrictions due to the pandemic. Congratulations to Kai B., Joseph B. and Charles T. for this outstanding accomplishment.

Once receiving the Arrow of Light award, the three Scouts were eligible to join a Scouts BSA Troop. There were representatives from Troops 424 and 20 to welcome their new Scout into their Troops.
