RSVP BONE BUILDERS PROGRAM FOR SENIORS

The RSVP Bone Builders Program is a strength-training and balance exercise program to help prevent and reverse osteoporosis, improve balance, and enhance energy and well-being. The program, geared for age 60 and older, relies on weight training to protect against fractures caused by osteoporosis by increasing muscular strength and bone density. Balance exercises aimed at preventing falls and fractures are key components. The program is led by trained volunteer leaders. Free. BOATING EDUCATION PROGRAM

RISE FALL COURSE PREVIEW

The Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE) fall course preview will be held 9:30 a.m.-noon Aug. 23 in the reception room of the Dion Center (note new location) at Rivier University on Clement Street. Two five-week semesters are offered. Part One runs Sept. 9-Oct. 11; Part Two runs Oct. 21-Nov 22. No learning prerequisites or tests are required. Membership is $120 and includes the use of the Muldoon Health and Fitness Center, the Regina Library, and Dion Dining Hall. Courses are not credit bearing. Choose up to five courses each term. The 59 available courses include literature, art, history, music, computer science, digital photography, philosophy and spiritual enrichment, languages, writing, world cultures, current events, genealogy, moderate exercises and water exercises. Individuals older than 55 are welcome to learn more about RISE, preview courses and register with a check at the preview. NEW UKE AND GUITAR INSTRUCTOR AT NCMS

The Nashua Community Music School announced the addition of Mike Loce to its staff as a guitar and ukulele instructor. In addition to teaching private lessons, the school is starting new uke ensembles. Private lessons are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP HOSTS SPECIAL PRESENTATION

The Nashua Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group will meet 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Somerset Parkway. Jeff Vacirca, MD, will present information on a new breakthrough therapy recently approved by the FDA that activates the immune system of a patient to control the proliferation of prostate cancer cells, helping to limit the progression of the disease. PREPARE FOR SURGERY, HEAL FASTER

Join nurses at St. Joseph Hospital as they help individuals start the healing process by decreasing anxiety and developing a more positive attitude before, during and after surgery. DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT TRAINING

People with diabetes are 300 times more likely than others to suffer from cardiac-related diseases. The Diabetes Education Clinic offers help to learn more about how to keep diabetes under control and to lower the risk of serious future complications. NAMI CLASS ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is offering a free 12-week class starting Sept. 16. This is an educational course for family and friends of individuals with mental health issues. The classes are structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. SUPER SITTERS CLASS

St. Joseph Hospital is offering a child care class called Super Sitters designed to teach ages 11-13 what they need to know to begin child sitting, such as handling an emergency, safety guidelines, basic first aid, child care tips and techniques, and how to select safe and age-appropriate toys and games. FORECLOSURE PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION SEMINAR

Neighborworks Southern New Hampshire will offer a free Foreclosure Prevention and Intervention Seminar from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 19, Nov. 21 or Dec. 19 at its satellite office at 162 Burke St. A HUD-approved counselor will help individuals understand the options and strategies for preventing foreclosure. CPR FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Every parent, caretaker and friend should know how and when to administer CPR. When performed correctly, cardiopulmonary resuscitation can save a person’s life by restoring breathing and circulation until advanced life support can be given by a medical care provider. St. Joseph Hospital offers CPR: Family and Friends, which teaches CPR for infants, children and adults. The course will be noon-2:30 p.m. Sept. 22 or Nov. 10. $35. COMPUTERIZED CONCUSSION TESTING

You never know when a concussion will happen, but you can learn what to look for. The ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) test is an advanced, research-based computer test developed to help clinicians evaluate an athlete’s recovery after concussion.
