FRONT DOOR AGENCY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Front Door Agency will hold its annual golf tournament in support of its mission to help families in Greater Nashua as they transition from crisis to self-sufficiency. The tournament is a scramble format based on the Buick Handicap System. NASHUA AREA RETIRED EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION

The Nashua Area Retired Educators Association will hold its business meeting, June Luncheon and Spring into Summer Social June 5 at Nashua Country Club. Registration starts at 11 a.m.; luncheon served at noon. Congregate collection of yearly volunteer hours will be made. Members wishing to participate are asked to approximate and tally their hours of volunteer time prior to the meeting. NAREA contribute thousands of hours of volunteer time toward quality of life enhancement for the Greater Nashua Community and its citizens. NAREA meetings and activities will resume in the fall. All area retired teachers, administrators, and educational staff are invited to participate and attend. NASHUA GARDEN CLUB

The Nashua Garden Club will meet 7-9 p.m. June 5 at First Baptist Church, 121 Manchester St. Deanne Fortnam of Deanne Art will present a photojournal of images of her flower borders from waking up in April to first frost in fall. She will discuss signature perennials that are focal plants in each season. Members of the public are welcome to attend a meeting for a fee of $5. Annual dues are $20. The 19th annual Taste of Downtown Nashua: A Night of Food, Fun & Jazz will be held 6-8:30 p.m. June 5. There will be more than 20 locations on Main Street and West Pearl Street, where you can sample food and beverages. Sidewalk musicians, a raffle, and pre-event cocktails and post-event night cap specials add to the festivities. Tickets are $30 until June 4 and $35 on the day of the event. CHILDREN’S FISHING DERBY

Lone Pine Hunters Club is hosting its third annual Fishing Derby on June 1 at 114 Rideout Road in Hollis. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the derby will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a free event for Hollis and Nashua residents. A parent must accompany their children and registration is limited to the first 50 children ages 5-12. Prizes will be given for most caught fish, biggest fish and largest tree branch caught! Please bring your own fishing pole and tackle. A limited supply of worms will be provided. Call Bryan at 234-9391 to pre-register.

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER TEA AT ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL

This program, geared for girls ages 9-13 years old, provides an opportunity and tools for improved communication between mothers and daughters about the cycles of life that transform a gift into a woman. Professionals will present a discussion on growth, development and the wonders and mysteries of a woman’s cycle within an atmosphere of celebration of each individual’s uniqueness. RECREATION DEPARTMENT

2013 PUBLIC TRIPS

The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department has begun taking registrations for four trips in 2013 – two Red Sox games and two trips to New York City.

The Red Sox Games are: 1:30 p.m. June 30 versus the Toronto Blue Jays (Right Field Box 39), with 40 tickets at $82/person; and 7 p.m. Sept. 4 versus the Detroit Tigers (Left Field Pavilion Box Seats) with 40 tickets at $105/person. Price includes bus transportation.

The two New York City Trips are June 1 and Dec. 7. Cost for each trip is $60/person. Bus leaves Greeley Park at 6 a.m. and arrives in New York City at 11:30 a.m. Bus arrives back at Greeley Park at 11:30 p.m.

A $30 non refundable deposit per person is required for each trip. Deposit is to be paid before name goes on trip roster.

SOUHEGAN VALLEY GOLF CLASSIC AND DINNER AUCTION

Opportunity Networks’ 23rd annual Souhegan Valley Golf Classic and Dinner Auction will be held June 6, rain or shine, at Amherst Country Club. TROOP 22 YARD SALE

Amherst Boy Scout Troop 22 will hold a yard sale from 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. June 8 at Meetingplace Plaza, 199 Route 101. Donated items will be accepted at Meetingplace Plaza from 3-8 p.m. June 7. Unacceptable items are large appliances, tires, mattresses, bedding, large TVs, child car seats, air conditioners, microwaves, old computers and monitors. Proceeds are used to buy the equipment and supplies needed to sponsor activities for the boys to advance through the Scouting ranks.

HOLISTIC FAIR FUNDRAISER FOR ANNE MARIE HOUSE

Nia NH & Yoga, 110 Route 101A, will host a “Time for Self” Holistic Fair from noon-5 p.m. June 1. Free presentations include Sound Alchemy’s Crystal Bowls Healing Journey, which will begin the event at noon. Presentations will feature yoga and Nia movement class demonstrations, acupuncture, meditation and breathwork, energy work and nutrition. Vendor offerings will include wellness modalities, acupuncture; massage, ionic foot baths and more. BROOKLINE GARDEN CLUB’S ANNUAL PLANT SALE

The Brookline Garden Club will be hosting their annual plant sale starting at 8:30 a.m. June 1 at the Brookline Ball Park on Route 130. Various perennials that have prospered in our own gardens (and have proven to survive the New England winters) as well as some fresh herbs and a few select annuals will be for sale. Plants prices start as low as $1. The BGC will be stocking many of the large two-gallon size plants (most for only $5) that many of its customers prefer, such as Hosta, Solomon Seal, Bleeding Heart, Rudbeckia and Echinacea. Come early for the best selection.

BROOKLINE CHURCH BREAKFAST

The Brookline Community Church, 2 Main St., will host a breakfast buffet from 7:30-10:30 a.m. June 1. Tickets are $7 for adults and children and $5 for seniors, and can be purchased at the door. In honor of Memorial Day, Brookline residents who are veterans can enjoy the buffet for free. Children 3 and younger also eat free. All proceeds will be donated to Veterans FIRST and Buckingham Place.

BONE MARROW DRIVE

The Brookline Lions Clubs will sponsor a bone marrow drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 1 at the Brookline Safety Complex. Typing fees for this drive are covered by health insurance or Michael’s Fund. BICYCLES BATTLING CANCER

Bicycles Battling Cancer is a charity cycling ride for the American Cancer Society, held June 9, that starts in Marlborough, Mass., and has a stop at Hollis Brookline Middle School along a 100-mile loop ride. Sign up to ride, or volunteer to help at the school. Minimum fundraising of only $300 to help the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society. $50 registration fee. The New Hampshire State Chili Cookoff Championship will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 1 at 211 Derry Road, across from Alvirne High School. Live music, games for kids, vendors, food and drink. SPRING FLING SHOW ’N’ SHINE

The Gate City Corvette Club will present its 33rd show, Spring Fling 2013, on May 26 at Anheuser-Busch, 221 Daniel Webster Highway. This is the first New England Points-Judged show for 2013. Registration is $25. Coupes and roadsters judged separately. There will be 49 classes and more than 150 trophies for Show, Super Street, Street and “Best of” awards. MHS STUDENT PLANS 2ND ANNUAL 5K TO BENEFIT HAITI

Hannah Vaccaro, a junior at Merrimack High School, is planning her second annual 5K for Haiti. Last year she planned “Race2Lace” with the goal of collecting new and used shoes to benefit the impoverished in LaGonave, Haiti. This year, she is planning another Race2Lace event with the name, “Running Water,” as the goal is to raise funds to build water wells/purification systems in Haiti as well as collect reusable water bottles. The run/walk will be held at 10 a.m. June 1 at Merrimack High School. Registration is at 9 a.m. A free kid’s fun run will start at 9:45 a.m.

Participants will join together to run/walk and bring a reusable water bottle (i.e. camelback, nalgene, nothing throw-away) as well as $5 for students ages 18 and younger and $15 for adults as their fee. Information and registration: www.runningwaterrace.com.

MERRIMACK GARDEN CLUB PLANT SALE

The fourth annual A Taste of Milford event is 6-8:30 p.m. May 30 in downtown Milford. Featuring 25 restaurants and local food producers from the Milford area. Sample terrific local food, stroll the downtown and shops, and listen to local musicians Doc Doherty, Marlena Phillips and local band Groov’n. KEYES ART FESTIVAL

The Milford Keyes Art Festival will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 1 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 2 on the Oval. Fine-art show, crafts, performance stage, kids’ activities, face painting, food booths, and artist demonstrations.
