CONCORD – The New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC) dedicated the new Claremont NH Liquor & Wine Outlet to Anthony “Tony” Maiola to honor his contributions to the state of New Hampshire, including his 18-year tenure as NHLC Commissioner. Former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, along with the Maiola family, including his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Maiola, son, Joel Maiola, and daughter, Dawn Ranney, and NHLC leadership, took part in the dedication ceremony at the new Claremont Outlet celebrating Maiola, who served as NHLC Chairman for six years. During the event, held on November 9, NHLC unveiled a plaque in Maiola’s honor.

“The New Hampshire Liquor Commission is a tremendous asset to the Granite State and Chairman Maiola played a major role in the success of NH Liquor & Wine Outlets for nearly two decades as a devoted public servant,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “We are extremely grateful for his contributions to this agency, but also to his community, state and country. Few Granite Staters have made as much of a positive impact as Tony, and I am honored to recognize the legacy he left to all of us.”

Born in Claremont, New Hampshire, Tony Maiola, and his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Woodhull Maiola, together devoted their lives to public and community service. Maiola’s commitment to the nation began as a US Marine serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Following the war, Maiola pledged himself to the people of New Hampshire, serving on the Newport Board of Selectmen, Sullivan County Commission and as a State Representative. Maiola also served on the Newport Planning Board, as the Newport Town Assessor and as a Newport fireman.

Maiola, a lifelong Newport resident, was dedicated to improving and enhancing both NHLC’s marketing efforts and the physical appearance of NH Liquor & Wine Outlets. His leadership contributed to significant sales growth, which maximized revenue for critical state services. Maiola was known for always being available to employees to hear their thoughts and concerns, and for his regular visits to Outlets with his wife.

“Chairman Maiola, through his leadership and lifelong dedication to public service, has left an immeasurable positive impact on NHLC,” said NHLC Chairman Joseph Mollica. “His endless devotion to improving the employee and customer experience in NH Liquor & Wine Outlets helped lay the foundation for decades of success and growth. His legacy sets a high standard for NHLC, and it is an honor to dedicate the new Claremont NH Liquor & Wine Outlet to Tony.”

The Claremont Outlet opened September 9 and offers modern amenities, including temperature and humidity-controlled wine vaults, high-efficiency LED fixtures, a refrigerated case, public restrooms and oversized aisles for easy shopping. The new Outlet also features a state-of-the-art loading dock, enabling NHLC and its partners to improve logistics and safety with product deliveries.

Since 2012, NHLC has renovated, relocated or constructed new NH Liquor & Wine Outlets in more than 30 communities, all in an effort to enhance the consumer shopping experience and to generate record revenue for the state.
