Liquor commission celebrates winners of annual poster contest

By Staff | Jun 20, 2020

CONCORD – The New Hampshire Liquor Commission Division of Enforcement and Licensing honored the winners of its annual Alcohol Awareness Youth Poster Contest with a socially distant cruiser parade on June 12. Seventh graders Claire, Ella and Clara were greeted by flashing lights, horns and cheers, as NHLC Enforcement officers in cruisers and the Mobile Outreach Unit vehicle rolled through the entrance of Portsmouth Middle School. Enforcement officers and the “InvestiGator” mascot presented the students prize packages and copies of their winning posters, which were selected for creative artwork and messages pertaining to alcohol safety and awareness.

“Even with social distancing measures in place, we were determined to properly honor this year’s group of winners, who did a fantastic job of showcasing their creative talents in a way that educates their fellow classmates and the public of the risks associated with irresponsible alcohol consumption,” said Mark Armaganian, director of the NHLC Division of Enforcement and Licensing. “We congratulate Claire, Ella and Clara, and look forward to displaying their posters to promote alcohol awareness for all to see.”

The NHLC Division of Enforcement launched its annual youth poster contest in April during Alcohol Awareness Month in an effort to empower students to tackle the topic of alcohol awareness through art, and to send peers a positive message. While many posters focus on the dangers associated with underage drinking, students have the freedom to develop sketches centered on any topic pertaining to alcohol awareness and safety. The contest is open to all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, in the state, including those who are home schooled.

Claire (first place), Ella (second place) and Clara (third place) were accompanied by their families and Portsmouth Middle School Health and Physical Education Department Head Kathy Birse-Segal to enjoy the parade from NHLC Division of Enforcement and receive their prizes. Winners’ artwork will be turned into official alcohol awareness posters for display at the NHLC Division of Enforcement offices.
