MC Clothing & Gifts back in Amherst

By Staff | Sep 14, 2014

AMHERST – The Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce welcomed MC Clothing & Gifts back to Amherst on Sept. 6 with a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its new store opening at MC Square, 135 Route 101A.

Formerly known as Mother & Child, the consignment and new store began 24 years ago in the same plaza in Amherst, but moved to Nashua for several years.

Earlier this year, owner Karen Goddard purchased the former Carriage Depot plaza and begun renovations on a new 8000 square foot space storefront.

Mother & Child Clothing Shop opened in 1990 with a vision of offering products that parents could not find in other local shops, evolving to become Mother & Child Clothing and Gifts as the demand grew for more retail products. Today, MC Clothing & Gifts has 25 employees, thousands of consignors and 8,000 square feet of items for babies, children, pregnancy, teens, men and women, as well as one of the largest selections of green products in southern New Hampshire.

“At M&C, we strive to part of a sustainable economy,” Goddard said. “The money that we earn goes back into the local community through our consignors, employees and the producers of local and regional products. Recycled clothing and other products help save energy and transportation costs while reducing waste. As a member of Green America, since 1993, we support fair trade artisans and businesses who source, manufacture and market products in a socially and environmentally responsible way.”
