By Staff | Apr 1, 2014

MERRIMACK – The JCI Jones Chemicals facility in Merrimack has been presented with the Chlorine Institute’s Process Safety Award, given to facilities achieving zero reportable quantity chemical releases and zero EPA Risk Management Program incidents.

The award was presented at the Chlorine Institute’s annual Health and Safety Issue Team Safety Awards event in March in New Orleans.

The Chlorine Institute, based in Arlington, Va., supports the chlor-alkali industry.

These awards recognize those facilities that have been the most successful in achieving the Chlorine Institute’s long-term goal of zero releases, injuries and process safety incidents.

JCI, a private family owned company founded in 1930, has operated its facility in Merrimack since 1970 and supplies chlorine-based water and wastewater treatment chemicals such as chlorine and sodium hypochlorite bleach worldwide including most cities and municipalities in the New England area who rely heavily upon the products and services provided by JCI to assure a safe, clean and reliable drinking water supply to households and businesses in the area.

JCI has also recently obtained certification under the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care Management System.
