Hello Direct acquired by Fla. company but will stay in Nashua
NASHUA – Hello Direct, which sells wireless headsets made by its parent company GN Netcom, has been sold to a Florida firm, but this shouldn’t affect the 55 employees at its Northeastern Boulevard location.
“The plan is to keep the Hello Direct operations, the employees, in Nashua,” said Dawn Mays, spokeswoman for Synergy Communications Management of Cape Canaveral, Fla.
Hello Direct was part of GN Netcom, which makes the Jabra brand wireless and wired headsets, speakers and related audio equipment to consumers and to businesses, notably call centers.
The sale of Hello Direct is part of GN Netcom’s strategy to focus on its core business of making Jabra equipment.
Jabra headsets are sold by other companies, and Hello Direct was sometimes seen as a competitor to those resellers, said Peter Fox, president and general manager of GN Netcom.
“It became increasingly difficult to reconcile owning a reseller,” Fox said.
GN Netcom bought Hello Direct in 2001, he said.
Hello Direct will remain in the 77 Northeastern Blvd. building that houses GN Netcom’s headquarters, although the two companies will be more separated, said Mays.
GN Netcom is the North American subsidiary of Danish firm GN Nord Store. The Nashua headquarters is its only major office. The firm consolidated its space a few years back when the recession hit.
Fox declined to give details about employees or sales, saying that it retains a “substantial” presence here.
Synergy Communications Management is a holding company that owns several unrelated businesses, Mays said. Its owner, Dottie O’Daniel, started Call One, a handset seller that competes with Hello Direct.
Mays said the two firms would remain independent.
“Historically they’re seen as competitors, we’re going for more of a sister company concept,” she said. “They serve all sorts of different markets, from small business to large call centers, to individuals, to county and city governments.”
A major difference is that Hello Direct only sells Jabra equipment, whereas Call One sells a number of brands, including Jabra. Mays said it was unclear whether Hello Direct would also become a “multi-line distributor.”
Jabra has a number of headsets and speakers that use the wireless technology Bluetooth, as well as corded headsets.
