United Way invites residents to play, compete and give back through fundraising events
NASHUA – This fall, the United Way of Greater Nashua is inviting residents to have fun while making a difference through two exciting fundraising events: the Betting on the Community Poker Hand Pub Crawl as well as the Serving Up Support Pickleball Tournament and Social.
Both events raise critical funds to support the United Way’s work in education, health, financial stability and basic needs throughout Greater Nashua while bringing community members together in unique and engaging ways.
The third annual Poker Hand Pub Crawl will be held on Sept. 12 from 4-8 p.m. Participants will have a chance to experience downtown Nashua’s vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene while supporting their neighbors.
Participants will visit five downtown Nashua venues, collecting playing cards throughout the evening. The participant with the best poker hand at the end of the night will win a cash prize. Registration is $25 and includes event entry, a complimentary drink, special drink pricing, eligibility for raffle prizes and a chance to take home the grand prize.
The evening begins with participants gathering together before rotating through the venues in smaller groups, allowing bars and restaurants of all sizes to be part of the fun. The event concludes with a cash prize, raffle prizes and plenty of opportunities to celebrate with friends old and new.
“This event has become a favorite because it combines community, local business support, and philanthropy,” said Samantha Cassista, the United Way’s director of Corporate Sponsorships. “We’ve seen people form lasting friendships through the Pub Crawl while helping ensure local families have access to the resources they need.”

Returning are fan favorites Margarita’s, Penuche’s and Odd Fellows. New to the list are Taco and Tequila Way and Campo Enoteca. The event is sponsored by NÜTRL, Bellavance Beverage and Gate City Casino, who are throwing in more poker fun for participants.
For those who prefer competition on the court, the United Way will host its Serving Up Support Pickleball Tournament and Social on Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at YMCA Westwood Park, 90 Northwest Blvd.
Participants can register in either beginner or intermediate doubles divisions and are guaranteed a minimum of five games. Registration is $50 per person, with gift card prizes awarded to first, second and third place teams in each competition level. The event is being sponsored by Black, LaFrance & Bollinger Law Group and Prolman & Keane Financial, LLC.
The event is also being held in partnership with a pickleball fundraiser hosted by Habitat for Humanity. Participants who register for both tournaments can save $20 while supporting two local nonprofit organizations working to strengthen the community.
In addition to tournament play, attendees can enter raffle drawings featuring ten prize baskets valued at approximately $50 each. Community members who are unable to attend can still support the event through raffle ticket purchases. Register and find out more at unitedwaynashua.org/event/pickleball/.
Both events reflect United Way’s commitment to creating opportunities for people to connect, volunteer, and give back while having fun.
“Whether you’re collecting poker cards downtown or competing on the pickleball court, every participant is helping build a stronger community,” said Michael Apfelberg, president of the United Way. “These events are a great example of how people can come together, enjoy themselves and make a meaningful impact right here in Greater Nashua.”
Residents are encouraged to register early and invite friends, family members, coworkers and teammates.
