NASHUA — St. Joseph Hospital recently announced that Dr. Kristin Raven was named chairwoman of surgery following an affirmative vote by the hospital’s Board of Directors.

Raven, who joined St. Joseph Hospital Surgical Associates in January 2025, will lead the Surgery Department and work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and staff to further advance quality, safety, innovation and patient-centered care across the hospital’s surgical services.

Raven will also help guide the continued growth and development of St. Joseph Hospital’s surgical services while fostering collaboration, innovation and excellence in patient care.

“Dr. Raven is an outstanding surgeon and respected leader whose commitment to clinical excellence and collaboration has already made a meaningful impact at St. Joseph Hospital,” said St. Joseph President John Jurczyk. “Her depth of experience, dedication to high-quality patient care, and passion for mentoring others make her exceptionally well-suited to lead our Department of Surgery into the future.”

Raven is also the trauma medical director and led the trauma team to St. Joseph’s successful accreditation as a Level III Trauma Center.

Raven earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine before completing her general surgery residency, including serving as chief resident, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She went on to complete a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery, gaining expertise in complex surgical procedures and advanced surgical techniques.

Throughout her career, Raven has served as an attending surgeon and faculty at Harvard Medical School while remaining actively involved in surgical education, quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and medical ethics.

Raven’s clinical interests include hernia repair; colon surgery; thyroid and parathyroid surgery; surgery involving the liver, gallbladder, and digestive system. She performs minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

Raven succeeds Dr. Kathleen Hogan, who is relocating to Charleston, S.C.
