Neighbors traveling for summer fun to beaches or family homes or public parks surely are unaware that their itinerary may have a sudden change of destination — the emergency room of the nearest hospital.

Leaders at the American Medical Response (AMR) whose Nashua branch is based on West Hollis Street, are extending here some urgent reminders for summer safety.

The AMR dwells upon the urgency of fully extinguishing party highlight fireworks, pyrotechnics whose flare-ups can incite an unexpected explosion, perhaps causing injury or death.

“Our crews want everyone to enjoy the holiday and make memories with the people they care about,” said Jason Preston, director of operations for AMR New Hampshire.

Preston contends that crews at AMR Nashua and those across the country may be bracing to receive patients whose fireworks injuries, heat-related illnesses or alcohol-related issues are life threatening.

Several heat illness warning signs should be recognized, he says, as triggers to, “Call 911, now!”

— Nausea and fatigue

— Painful muscle cramps

— Dizziness

Preston also noted that recognizing an emergency early and promptly calling 911, without hesitation due to embarrassment, can improve patient outcomes.
