Rivier to host Holocaust Remembrance Day event on April 15

By Staff | Apr 13, 2026

NASHUA – Rivier University, in collaboration with Temple Beth Abraham, will welcome composer, writer and pianist Michael Schachter for an exploration of his forthcoming music and theater projects.

Schachter’s work has been influenced by the history of the Terezín Ghetto, a World War II concentration camp outside Prague where Jewish inmates resisted the Nazis through music, drama and artistic expression.

The event will be held on April 15 at 7 p.m. in the Dion Center, 16 Clement St.

Schachter will highlight the musical contributions of Eric Vogel, a trumpeter and founder of the Ghetto Swingers jazz band, and Rafael Schächter, a pianist and conductor who led inmates in performances of monumental works, including Verdi’s Requiem.

A candle lighting ceremony will also be held to remember the six million Jewish victims who died during the 12-year Holocaust. The Nashua Community Interfaith Choir will perform during the observance.
