Students taste test new meals aligned with updated school nutrition guidelines

By Staff | Mar 11, 2026

NASHUA – Dr. Crisp Elementary School and Nashua High School South recently celebrated National School Breakfast Week, highlighting the importance of starting the day with a healthy meal.

The district’s Food Service team engaged students in sampling new, lower-sugar, high-protein breakfast options such as breakfast bowls and calzones that follow the new USDA dietary regulations for added sugar. More than 300 students voted for their favorites, which helped school nutrition teams understand which items they enjoyed most.

The taste testing events were designed to: encourage students to try new, nutritious foods, gather real-time student input on recipe preference, support participation in school breakfast and build excitement and ownership around school meals.

“Student feedback is one of the most important tools we have,” said Mary Benoit, who has worked in school food service programs for 16 years. “When students share what they enjoy, it helps us build menus that support their focus, wellness and overall school experience.” \
