United Way to launch Confident Online Digital Literacy Workshop series
NASHUA – The United Way of Greater Nashua, in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Nashua, is launching Confident Online: Digital Literacy Workshops for All.
This is a new series of free, beginner-friendly community workshops designed to help residents feel more confident using computers and navigating the online world.
The five-part series will run February through June, with workshops held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. at the YMCA of Greater Nashua, 24 Stadium Dr. Classes are open to everyone, and no prior technology experience is required. The United Way would like to thank Comcast for supporting this program.
The first workshop, Avoiding Scams, will be held on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. This timely session will help participants recognize common online and phone scams, protect their personal information and respond safely if they believe they have been targeted.
“Scams are becoming more frequent and more sophisticated, and they often target people who are simply trying to manage everyday tasks online,” said Sara Ceaser, director of Volunteer and Community Engagement at the United Way of Greater Nashua. “This workshop is about giving people practical tools, confidence, and peace of mind.”
In addition to the monthly workshops, the United Way of Greater Nashua offers On Call Digital Navigators, a team of trained United Way volunteers who provide free, one-on-one technology help. Digital navigators can meet at a time and location that is convenient for the person needing help, whether that is in a community space or another mutually agreed-upon location. They assist with everyday technology needs such as using devices, managing accounts, staying safe online and navigating common digital tasks.
Anyone interested in working with an on-call digital navigator can request assistance by emailing techhelp@unitedwaynashua.org or calling 603-882-4011.
In addition to Avoiding Scams, the Confident Online series includes four additional sessions:
March 24 – Online Entertainment Platforms: Do’s, Don’ts, and How to Reduce Your Cost Learn how to use streaming platforms wisely, avoid hidden fees, and lower monthly costs.
April 28 – Digital Money Management An introduction to safely managing money online, including banking, bill pay, budgeting tools, and protecting financial information.
