Eligibility and required documents

Volunteers are trained to assist taxpayers through both the VITA and TCE programs and can help identify credits taxpayers may be eligible for, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and others.

The VITA Program offers free tax help to individuals who generally earn $67,000 or less, people with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers. The TCE Program focuses on tax issues unique to individuals age 60 and older. While there is no income limit for TCE-prepared returns, priority is given to low-to-moderate income households. All sites can prepare returns for both programs.

Taxpayers should bring all required documents to their appointment. A list of required documents and information on the types of tax returns volunteers can and cannot prepare can be found on IRS Form 3676-B, available at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p3676bsp.pdf.
