NASHUA – The pilot of a small plane was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center with serious injuries after crash landing in the parking lot of Cannongate Condominiums on the afternoon of Dec. 17.

According to FlightAware.com, the plane, a Velocity V-Twin, took off from Nashua Airport at 2:02 p.m. and reached an altitude of 1,500 feet while traveling at 148 miles per hour. The pilot was reportedly performing touch-and-go landings, which involves landing and taking off while keeping the plane in motion.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the plane fell from the sky 11 minutes into the flight and crashed upside down at 45 Cannongate Rd. On the way down, the aircraft appeared to have plowed through the tops of several trees.

Nashua Fire Rescue reported that at least one condominium was damaged in the crash and that smoke was seen coming from the attic.

Nashua Police put up crime scene tape to keep residents away from the crash site.

Additional information has not been released as the incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
