Massachusetts man charged with string of thefts

NASHUA – Chad Hirtle, 28, of East Bridgewater, Mass., was taken into custody on Dec. 12 in connection with a series of thefts earlier this year at businesses on Daniel Webster Highway.

According to the Nashua Police Department, between January and April, officers received numerous reports of items being stolen from Lowe’s, Guitar Center, Barnes and Noble, Tobacco Barn and Best Buy.

Detectives furthered the investigation and identified Hirtle as their suspect.

He has been charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer (consolidation in excess of $1,500), theft by unauthorized taking or transfer (consolidation in excess of $1,000), theft by unauthorized taking or transfer (three separate businesses within 72 hours) and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer in excess of $1,000.

Hirtle was held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Dec. 17.

Under state law, if convicted, he could face up to 36 years in prison, up to 20 years of probation and up to $16,000 in fines.
