City man charged with starting Tyler Street fire

NASHUA – Johnathan Gerald, 42, of Nashua, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the Nov. 23 fire on Tyler Street.
According to the Nashua Police Department, officers and Nashua Fire Rescue responded to 56 Tyler St. when flames broke out on the fourth floor of the apartment building.
Authorities allege that the fire was purposely set using an accelerant.
Officers attempted to speak with Gerald, who was identified as a possible witness to the fire. However, he was reportedly uncooperative with police and even smoked a small glass pipe before smashing it on the ground in front of them.
Gerald has been charged with arson, unlawful activities, five counts of reckless conduct, placing another in danger and four counts of criminal restraint.
Gerald was held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Nov. 24.
Under state law, if convicted, he could face up to 79 years in prison, up to 50 years of probation and up to $42,000 in fines.
