Local author to discuss iconic Red Arrow Diner
NASHUA – The Red Arrow Diner opened its flagship location in Manchester in 1922. Now 103 years later, Michael Morin, a radio host, Nashua Telegraph columnist and author, will be discussing those first 100 years as he visits Balin Books on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. to introduce his book, If These Walls Could Talk: Celebrating 100 Years of the Red Arrow, America’s Most Beloved Diner.
Not many restaurants make it 100 years. The diner’s original location has kept the comfort in comfort food while staying true to many original favorites. What will surprise even the old timers, are the many stories tied to unexpected people and organizations. There is an early Rockefeller connection while today’s fans include local guy Adam Sandler, a Red Arrow regular. Other celebrities have included Kevin Costner, RuPaul and Barenaked Ladies. Of course, nearly every presidential hopeful for the past 40 years has slurped Red Arrow chili and even a couple lucky candidates have been de-virginized in a diner ritual that locals love. Quirky and adorable, the Red Arrow is the heartbeat of downtown Manchester.
As a radio host for more than 50 years, Morin has learned that the best stories come from unexpected places. Not only is a diner the heartbeat of a community, it is also the keeper of colorful characters. He has found this heartbeat at the Red Arrow as revealed in the stories collected in his book.
This event is free and all are welcome. For more information call the bookstore at 603-417-7981 or check online at Balinbooks.com.
