LONDONDERRY – Joseph Amidio, 62, of Newton, was taken into custody on Nov. 1 after allegedly striking a Londonderry Police vehicle.

According to the Londonderry Police Department, the officer had just completed a traffic stop on Nashua Road near the intersection with Orchard View Drive. At that time, Amidio, who was driving a 2018 Mazda, clipped the police vehicle’s driver’s side mirror.

Amidio reportedly did not stop and continued westbound on Nashua Road. The officer was not injured and stopped Amidio in a 7-Eleven parking lot.

He has been charged with DWI, driving with an open container of alcohol, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and motorist duties when approaching highway emergencies.

Amidio was transported to the Rockingham County House of Corrections in protective custody. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Derry District Court on Nov. 12.

Under state law, if convicted, Amidio could face up to $2,150 in fines and have his driver’s license suspended for up to two years.
