NASHUA – Gloria Timmons, an alderwoman-at-large, former Board of Education member and a U.S. Army veteran, passed away on Oct. 29.
A champion for local government, Timmons had served on the Board of Aldermen since January 2022. She was planning to step down when her current term expired at the end of the year.
State Rep. Laura Telerski (D-Nashua) said that in August, Timmons arrived at an event at Telerski’s home with a cake for the 100-plus guests in attendance.
“She told me to plan on her taking care of dessert every year,” said Telerski. “She was kind, fiery, compassionate and always looking to serve. Nashua will miss sweet Gloria.”
Alderman-at-Large Benjamin Clemmons said the city has lost a “great leader.”
“I have known Gloria since she was serving on the Board of Education and was very proud to serve with her these last four years on the Board of Aldermen,” he said. “Gloria was a champion for the under-served and forgotten. She was a warrior for Education and believed in our public schools.”
Ward 3 Alderwoman Patricia Klee said Timmons was always known for putting others first.
“She was the most amazing woman that you could have met. She would give you her last penny and never give it a second thought. She was honestly the bravest woman that I know,” said Klee. “She raised her children on her own and helped raise some of her grandchildren as well. She lost her daughter who was a young mother and like any mother never truly healed from it. She always thought of others and was one of the first people to be by your side when there was a need. My heart is broken and like anyone who knew that beautiful woman, I am devastated.”
Ward 8 Alderman Derek Thibeault remembers Timmons as a “great leader and an even better person.”
“She served her country and her city, she was a great friend to me,” he said. “I will miss her advice and guidance. I am a better leader because of her and will miss her dearly. My heart goes out to her family, including her many wonderful grandchildren who meant so much to her.”
Outside of local government, Timmons retired as vice president of New Hampshire Employment Security and was a past president of the Greater Nashua NAACP.
