Nashua man charged with animal cruelty

NASHUA – William Southern, 61, of Nashua, was taken into custody on Sept. 23 in connection with an animal cruelty incident.
According to the Nashua Police Department, on Sept. 17, officers responded to the McDonald’s at 3 Northeastern Blvd. where they found a dog tied to a fence and acting “abandoned and scared.”
With assistance from witnesses, police were able to identify Southern as their suspect.
Southern was reportedly uncooperative as he was being placed under arrest.
He has been charged with cruelty to animals, negligent and two counts of resisting arrest.
Southern was released on a $200 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Oct. 22.
Under state law, if convicted, he could face up to three years in prison and up to $6,000 in fines.
