Girls in Aviation Day event slated for Sept. 27 at Manchester-Boston Airport

By Staff | Sep 22, 2025

LONDONDERRY — Is there a girl in your life who loves aviation?

Girls in Aviation Day, a STEM education exhibition, is designed for students ages 8 to 18 years old to introduce them to the exciting world of aviation and aerospace. The event and all activities are free and open to all.

The event takes place on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with activities at Signature Aviation, 1 Garside Way and at the Aviation Museum of N.H. at 27 Navigator Road. Participants are asked to register at Signature Aviation; a shuttle service will be available between the two locations, which are both on the airport’s east side, off Harvey Road.

Hands-on STEM activities will include use of the Aviation Museum’s flight simulator, a drone obstacle course, and a scavenger hunt on aviation maps. Attendees can meet with exhibitors from flight schools, educational institutions, and professional development organizations throughout the industry. Visitors can also explore static displays including fixed wing aircraft and helicopters and see the Aviation Museum’s student-built aircraft.

Admission is free for participants and their parent or guardian. Advance registration is recommended. For more information about registration, volunteering and exhibitor information, visit the Women in Aviation Boston Chapter at www.wai-bos.com/girlsinaviationday.

“When people think about a career in aviation, most people think of a pilot,” said Danyell Fairburn, president of the Boston Chapter of Women in Aviation. “We want to show the students that there are exciting careers available to them as engineers, air traffic controllers, astronauts, aircraft maintenance technicians, dispatchers and dozens of other jobs within the aviation community. We will introduce the girls to role models and educate them in a fun and supportive atmosphere.”

Girls in Aviation Day is part of a global initiative led by Women in Aviation International, which launched its first Girls in Aviation Day in 2015. Since then, the event has grown into a worldwide movement. In 2024, there were over 33,000 attendees.

Gov. Kelly Ayotte has officially proclaimed Sept. 27 as ‘Girls in Aviation Day’ in the State of New Hampshire.

“I wish there had been an event like this when I was trying to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up,” said Kerri Fingerson, vice president of the Boston Chapter of Women in Aviation. “We want to inspire these girls to consider aviation as they make their college and career plans.”
