SANDWICH – Renee Cushman of Windham was on her way down Mt. Whiteface after reaching the 4,019-foot summit on Sept. 4.
According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, conservation officers received a 911 call from Cushman at 4:30 p.m. indicating that she was suffering from a “medical condition.” By that time, Cushman, 45, had been hiking for six-and-a-half hours.
She was found on Dicey’s Mill Trail, approximately two miles from the trailhead. With assistance from first responders, Cushman arrived back at the parking lot at 6:28 p.m.
Fish and Game officers were assisted by members of the Sandwich and Tamworth fire departments as well as Lakes Region Search and Rescue.
In July 2019, Ashish Shah of North Andover, Mass. was rescued from Rollins Trail on Mt. Whiteface after suffering a leg injury. Three years earlier, Alexa Kovach of Lynn, Mass. also sustained a leg injury and was rescued from Blueberry Ledge Trail.
Mt. Whiteface is considered a moderately difficult climb and is located in the Sandwich Range Wilderness of the White Mountains.
