NASHUA – New Hampshire’s battle against food insecurity has a new participant: Can-One USA.

The Burke Street company recently donated $5,000 to both the Nashua Soup Kitchen and End 68 Hours of Hunger.

“These organizations work tirelessly to ensure that all Granite Staters have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive, and we’re proud to support their efforts,” said Can-One President Giovanni Di Mambro. “This is part of our long-term commitment to strengthening the community where our employees work and live.”

The pair of donations is part of the company’s annual giving program, Together We Give. Going forward, Can-One will donate $5,000 to support nonprofit organizations who strive to provide food and shelter to those in need throughout Greater Nashua.

“We’ve been welcomed by the Greater Nashua community and we want to do everything we can to support the organizations that are playing such an important role in helping those in need,” said Di Mambro.

Jane Goodman, executive director of the Nashua Soup Kitchen, said the donation will cover the cost of feeding 10 children for one year.

“At a time when there is a tremendous amount of pressure on food pantries, we’re so grateful that Can-One USA, as a new organization, is willing to get involved and support the local community,” she said.

Founded in 1981, the Nashua Soup Kitchen provides food and services to families in crisis. The organization also operates an emergency shelter 35 Spring St., which can accommodate up to 75 people at a time.

Last year, the Nashua Soup Kitchen provided 69,000 hot meals and distributed 8,196 food boxes. The organization also operates Nashua Meals for Kids and a back to school backpack program.

End 68 Hours of Hunger was established in 2011 to fill the 68-hour gap that students face between lunch on Friday and breakfast on Monday.

The organization’s Nashua Chapter feeds 425 children per week.

“The impact that these funds will have on the health and well being of local children is immense,” said Jennifer Morton, a program coordinator for the Nashua Chapter. “We appreciate Can-One USA’s help caring for children in our community.”

Since opening one year ago, Can-One has created 120 full-time jobs and produces 1.5 million cans per day as well as 550 unique can designs.
