James Manganais of Manchester displays his debut book, "Upon a Star," a newly published fantasy tale well received by an audience of admirers at an author talk hosted July 25 by Balin Books in Nashua.

NASHUA – James Manganais of Manchester is the newly published author of his debut book, “Upon a Star,” a 231-page paperback fantasy tale about an alternative universe embroiled in civil war and populated by citizens enslaved with life sentences for trivial crimes such as stealing a library book — penalties imposed by raging tyrants.

“I have been telling stories since I was little and admit I’ve developed a creative passion for fantasy,” said Manganais, a new father to a baby boy and a well patronized card dealer at Lucky Moose Casino and Tavern in Nashua. “This book focuses on a distorted justice system whose winged horses, tyrants, heroes, elves and magicians face monumental conflicts.”

He credits support from friendly patrons at the casino for the generous tips that enabled him to concentrate on finishing the book. He welcomed guidance from friends Andy Ivey and Rod Robertson in researching and selecting Book House Publishing of Bellingham, Wash. Stellar attention derived from Scott Book for cover design, Melissa Coffman for publishing support and Julie Scandora for editing with a soft knife.

Reviews thus far include hearty accolades from an avid crowd of book lovers at an author talk hosted July 25 by Balin Books on Amherst Street in Somerset Plaza alongside Market Basket.

High praise also is posted on the book’s reverse from enthusiasts elsewhere. Roderick Robertson of Charleston, author of “The Human Vector” and “Winning at Entrepreneurship” wrote, …” no matter who you are there is something in these pages that is waiting to transport you to a vibrant world full of fantasia.”

“From the heartwarming relationships to heart-wrenching trials, this book was stuck to my hands till the last page,” said Brittany Winn of Chelmsford, Mass.

Jake Trembly of Nashua wrote of the young half-elf boy main character, “As young Kristo discovers his world is full of beautiful magic, I found myself similarly immersed in exploring the world he has to learn about.”

Manganais extended thanks to all the supporters that have made his initial literary enterprise a success of fantasy come true.

“I have huge thanks in my heart for everyone who has lent me advice on this journey,” Manganais added. “My dream of becoming an author is a reality because of your feedback and I rest assured the public will fall in love with the world inside “Upon a Star.”

The author urges enthusiasts to order “Upon a Star” through Amazon, Instagram, Barnes and Noble or to purchase copies in stock at Nashua’s Balin Books, 375 Amherst St., in Somerset Plaza. Author James Manganais can be contacted via email at wishingstarbooksllc@gmail.com.
