Massachusetts man rescued from Mt. Washington

Ravikumar Patel, 35, of Lowell, Mass., had a close call on the evening of June 23 as he descended from the summit of the tallest peak in the Northeast.
According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Patel was a half-mile above Hermit Lake when he slipped and hit his head on Mt. Washington’s Tuckerman Ravine Trail.
One of his hiking partners called 911 and conservation officers initiated a rescue at 4:34 p.m. They contacted the Appalachian Mountain Club, which was able to send a first responder to Tuckerman Ravine from Hermit Lake. The responder assisted Patel back to the Hermit Lake AMC Hut to wait for a conservation officer.
The officer arrived at 6:45 p.m. and took Patel down to the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, where his family met him and took him to the hospital.
